Renewal Permits
Directive to all Nurses working in MCH – Renewal Permits
It is currently the practice of pharmacy staff in MCH to send expiring permits to the wards for the nurses to chase the respective firm and sign the renewal forms for treatment. MUMN would like to clarify that nurses SHOULD NOT take responsibility for the signing of renewal forms. Nurses are not errand boys for other professionals, especially when such ‘errands’ carry a degree of responsibility which by right is not within their remit.
If a nurse accepts to take the responsibility for the renewal of such forms (even verbally, over the phone) from pharmacy then the nurse is making herself liable in the case the form is not signed for one reason or another and the patient ends missing their medication. MCH management should advice pharmacy staff to send such forms to the offices of the respective consultant instead of these forms to be sent to the wards.
It is important to note that MUMN will not be able to assist individuals who, despite this clarification, insist on assuming responsibility for the signing of medicine renewal forms should they find themselves in trouble because of their decision.
Therefore, MUMN is allowing till the 2nd December as for MCH management to re direct the renewal forms to other MCH employees. As from the 2nd December, MUMN is issuing a directive to all nurses that any phone calls from pharmacy or any work related on the process of such forms will not be done by the nursing staff in all grades.
